Really, there’s no comparison. iPhone X KILLS IT!
Apple unveiled a ton of new devices this autumn, including three brand new iPhones – the highlight of the event, of course, was the hotly anticipated iPhone X, which doesn’t ship until November.
However, the company also introduced the new iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus. And of course, it kept last year’s models–the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus around for another year.
But it was a bit of a shock that Apple decided to keep the iPhone 6s Plus around another year too. It looks like they are trying to offer an iPhone with as big a screen size as possible for as cheaply as possible – well, cheap in Apple terms.
So just how do the iPhone X and the iPhone 6s Plus differ? Here’s how the two compare.
iPhone X vs iPhone 6 Plus: Specs
Here’s the specs for the iPhone X:
- Display: 5.8in display with a 2436 x 1125-pixel resolution at 458 ppi
- Dimensions: 143.6mm x 70.9mm x 7.7mm
- Weight: 174 grams
- Storage: 64 or 256GB
- Memory: 3 GB RAM
- Processors: A11 Bionic chip
- Front camera: 7 MP photos and 1080p HD video
- Rear camera: 12MP wide-angle and telephoto cameras, Dual optical image stabilisation, Optical zoom
- Battery: 2716 mAh, Wireless charging
- Other: Face ID, NFC, 3D Touch; Splash, Water and Dust Resistant
And here’s the specs for the iPhone 6 Plus:
- Display: 5.5in Retina HD display with 1920×1080 resolution at 401ppi, 3D Touch enabled
- Dimensions: 158.2mm x 77.9 mm x 7.3 mm
- Weight: 188 grams
- Storage: 32 or 128GB
- Memory: 2 GB RAM
- Processors: A9
- Front camera: 5 MP
- Rear camera: 12 MP single lens
- Battery: 2750mAh
- Other: Touch ID, NFC, 3D Touch
Both these iPhones have large screens, but that’s about as similar as they get. First off, the iPhone X has 50% more RAM at 3GB, than the 2GB found in the iPhone 6s Plus. As far as CPU’s the iPhone X features Apple’s new A11 Bionic chip with its Neural engine–it runs figurative circles around the old A9 chip found in the 6s Plus. Expect it to be almost twice as fast. The iPhone X also comes in larger storage sizes: 64GB or 256GB versus the 32GB or 128GB found in the iPhone 6 Plus.
iPhone X vs iPhone 6 Plus: Display & Design
Where the difference between these two giant phones lie is in their display and design. The resolution of the iPhone X’s screen is a breathtaking 5.8in 2436 x 1125-pixels at 458 ppi edge-to-edge display. Compare that to the iPhone 6 Plus’ 5.5in display with a 1920×1080-pixel resolution at 401ppi. Further, because the iPhone X does away with the “chin” and “forehead” bumpers, the iPhone X can actually fit a larger usable display into a footprint much smaller than the iPhone 6 Plus.
Another big difference in design is that the iPhone X lacks a Home button. The iPhone 6 Plus still has the Home button we all know and love. This means the iPhone 6 Plus also still has Touch ID. The iPhone X lacks Touch ID and replaces it with Apple’s new Face ID facial recognition system. Both the iPhones feature a 3D Touch display and NFC, but only the iPhone X is Splash, Water and Dust Resistant.
iPhone X vs iPhone 6 Plus: Battery
The iPhone X has just a SLIGHTLY smaller battery (2716 mAh) than the iPhone 6 Plus (2750 mAh). But it makes no difference as far as usage time is concerned between both devices (with the exception the iPhone 6s Plus will get you 25% more audio playback time, on average). One of the major differences in the power department, however, is that the iPhone X features wireless charging–something the iPhone 6 Plus does not have. Here’s how the battery life compares between the two in Talk Time, Standby Time, Internet Use, Video Playback, and Audio Playback:
- Talk time: iPhone X – 21 hours. iPhone 6 Plus – 24 hours.
- Internet use: iPhone X – Up to 12 hours. iPhone 6 Plus – Up to 12 hours.
- Video playback: iPhone X – Up to 13 hours. iPhone 6 Plus – Up to 14 hours.
- Audio playback: iPhone X – Up to 60 hours. iPhone 6 Plus – Up to 80 hours.
iPhone X vs iPhone 6 Plus: Camera
Where cameras are concerned, the iPhone X and iPhone 6 Plus couldn’t be more different. It features a larger 7MP front-facing camera (versus the 6s Plus’s 5MP front camera). But the real benefit is in the rear camera. The iPhone X features a dual lens 12MP rear camera complete with a wide angle and telephoto lens and dual optical zoom. The 6s Plus is limited to a single lens 12 MP camera.
iPhone X vs iPhone 6 Plus: Cost & Verdict
Unlocked the 5.5in iPhone 6 Plus will cost £549 (32GB) and £649 (128GB). The 5.8in iPhone X will cost £999 (64GB) and £1149 (256GB). That £450 and £500 premium for the iPhone X does get you a massive amount of more stuff including a bigger display and a sexy new design, wireless charging, a processor almost twice as fast, an INSANELY better camera on the front and back, and more storage.
