Samsung can’t figure out how to use flexible screens, offers people $10,000 for good ideas

Both Samsung and LG are working on flexible display technology. LG has even said that they want to release a flexible smartphone by the end of this year. Whether they actually achieve that goal is something we’ll find out in a little less than five months. Anyway, Samsung has just announced that they’re going to give people the chance as much as $10,000 in exchange for a business plan that utilizes their flexible screen technology.

How do you enter? Go to this website, read the rules, fill out the required paperwork before October 6th, and you’re golden. There are a few restrictions. First, your business plan can not include a display that’s smaller than 1 inch or larger than 20 inches. Second, you can’t design something that’s niche, it needs to be “high volume”. Third, your theoretical display can’t show more than 1920 x 1080 pixels. And finally fourth, you have to submit your idea as a PDF file for some odd reason.

Are there any catches? Yes. I read the fine print, and there’s a big catch:

Open only to eligible legal residents of the 50 U.S. states (D.C.) who are 18 years or older at time of entry.

If you’re a smart European or a smart Asian, Samsung doesn’t want to hear from you.
