Samsung ATIV Q sports a 13.3-inch 3200×1800 screen; Runs Windows 8 and Android

At its Premier event in London yesterday, Samsung unveiled its latest ATIV branded tablet – the ATIV Q. The ATIV Q is an interesting tablet that runs on Windows 8 as well as Android.

This “versatile and adaptable” tablet sports a 13.3-inch screen with a whopping 3200×1800 resolution and is optimized for bright sunlight with 178-degrees wide viewing angles. Samsung has also bundled a S-PEN with the device, which should help make note-taking easier on the device. The Q is a full blown convertible and can be converted into a full blown notebook by attaching it with a keyboard dock.

Under the hood, the ATIV Q packs a Core i5 Haswell processor from Intel that allows it to have up to 9 hours of battery. Other specs include 4GB of RAM and 128GB of SSD storage.

The standout feature of the ATIV Q is its ability to run Windows and Android simultaneously. To switch from one OS to another, the user will only need to press the Start button on the tablet. The switching happens on-the-fly, without any reboot. You can also pin Android apps to your Windows screen, and vice versa. The Android OS actually runs inside a VM, and is the latest version of Jelly Bean (Android 4.2.2.) without any of the Samsung’s UI overlays.

Like the Galaxy NX, Samsung did not provide any information about the pricing or the release date of this hybrid tablet.
