Mailbox is a pretty nice email client. It is so nice that, to start using it – even though it was available on the App Store for free – you had to go to their website, register and receive a text message with a code which you would need to introduce in the app to stay in line. I had to wait a week to start enjoying Mailbox.
But what was the big deal? Why the wait? Mailbox is a great email client that works even better than Apple’s native option. It lets you get through your messages more quickly and delete or save things for later more easily. Mailbox also has a very simple and elegant interface that makes it fun to read and send emails.
Now, if you want to use it, you don’t have to wait anymore: just go to the App Store, download it and configure your email account. And the good news is that if you have an iPad, you can now have the native app right on the big screen of your tablet.
Mailbox for iPad takes advantage of the 9.7-inch display, in case of the iPad 4, or the iPad Mini’s 7.9-inch screen in a way that lets you see more content.
According to the tutorial, Mailbox has “five zones” that let you “swipe messages to move between them”. Swipe right to archive emails and quickly access your archive from the navigation bar; long swipe right to move messages to the trash (which can be found later in the drawer); swipe left to read later and then pick a snooze (either later today, this evening, tomorrow, etc.); and long swipe left to send messages to your lists.
At the moment, Mailbox for iPad only works on landscape mode, but the team has promised an update that will let you use the app on portrait mode. You can only use a Gmail account, but that will change in the future too.
I like Mailbox a lot, but if you have the native email option enabled and use Gmail’s official app, you will get notified three times for every single message – your device will make noises like crazy, so it would be wise to use just one.
