Native AirPlay mirroring coming soon to CyanogenMod nightly builds

Koush, the VP of engineering for the newly founded Cyanogen Inc., has been working on “AllCast” to enable streaming of any content from Android devices to various other media servers such as Chromecast or DLNA servers. Previously, he had posted videos showing Dropbox and local content streaming from Android devices to Chromecast.

Today, he has uploaded another video showing AirPlay mirroring from an HTC One, running a CyanogenMod build, to an Apple TV connected to a HDTV. In the video, the mirroring worked flawlessly across a variety of apps without any issues, except for a slight lag.

While there are quite a few apps on the Play Store that can Airplay to an Apple TV, Koush’s implementation is at an OS level, which makes it much more useful and easier to use. This new feature from Koush won’t be available as a stand alone app, and instead will be integrated into CyanogenMod since it requires some low-level framework changes. This new feature should be coming soon to CyanogenMod nightly builds.
