Earlier today, Microsoft revealed that its Office Suite for iPad and OneNote has seen 12 million downloads so far. Microsoft released Office for iPad, which include Word, PowerPoint and Excel, just 7 days ago. The apps were also enjoying their place on the top of Apple’s App Store charts recently.

The company took to Twitter to announce this milestone, which is a big deal for them. When Microsoft finally released Office for iPad after years of making everyone wait, no one expected them to see so much success. Engadget tried contacting Microsoft to find out whether these downloads also include Office 365 subscriptions, but didn’t get any reply.

Microsoft’s Office for iPad looks good, is probably the best productivity tool available for iPad, but it requires an Office 365 subscription to edit or create documents. Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote for iPad are available for free in the App Store, with the ability to only view documents. The subscription starts at $9.99 and is available as in-app purchases via the apps. You also get 20 GB of free OneDrive storage and 60 minutes of Skype calls.

How many of you have downloaded Office for iPad and used it? Did you get the Office 365 subscription or just un-installed the app soon after?
