Microsoft Hints At HTC Partnership
HTC seems to be at work on some new Windows Phones, according to Microsoft’s not-so-subtle hint
Microsoft just dropped a fairly acute hint that it’s working closely with HTC on some forthcoming products, suggesting HTC is developing Windows-based mobile devices.
Nick Parker, vice president of OEM partners at Microsoft, took to the stage at the company’s Computex event in Taipei, Taiwan, reports CNET.
When questioned about Microsoft’s partnerships, Parker said, “I’d love to break some news here if I could, but instead I’ll just say that Microsoft will continue to have a great relationship with HTC.”
“New things are coming, so get excited,” he added.
In the tech world’s culture of secrecy, that’s about as direct an admission as you can get that the company’s are working together on something. And this being Microsoft – the company behind Windows – and HTC – a mobile manufacturer which has, in the past, made Windows-based mobile devices…well, need we say more?
There’s a handful of HTC Windows smartphones rumoured to be currently in development, including the HTC W8. Previously @evleaks has claimed the W8 will bring HTC’s BoomSound speakers and duo camera to Windows Phone.
The news that “new things” with Microsoft and HTC are afoot shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise. Since Microsoft bought Nokia there have been a lot of whispers circulating that the company has been courting various Android manufacturers with the goal of getting more OEMs creating Windows Phone devices, including Sony, Samsung and HTC.
