Microsoft Doesn’t Expect Apple To Bring iTunes To Windows 8 Metro Devices Anytime Soon

If you are a Windows 8 fan and were expecting Apple to make a metro version of Windows 8, then you need to think again. CNN heard from Tami Reller, chief financial officer at Microsoft who said yesterday “you shouldn’t expect an iTunes app on Windows 8 any time soon. iTunes is in high demand. The welcome mat has been laid out. It’s not for lack of trying.”

This isn’t to say that Windows 8 users can’t use iTunes altogether, because they can in desktop mode, but tablet users get a less-than-ideal iTunes experience – or can’t download iTunes at all, if they’re using the Surface RT, which doesn’t run non-Microsoft desktop software. Surface RT users are stuck with the Redmond company’s own music app, which most would argue isn’t on-par with iTunes.

iTunes Is Not Coming To Windows 8 Metro Devices Anytime Soon

Sorry Surface, it doesn’t look like you will be getting iTunes anytime soon

Apple’s withhold from making a metro version of iTunes does make sense. Although the fruit company has been willing to make Windows compatible versions of its software, including  iTunes, Safari, and Quicktime, Apple is in a very different position in the PC market than it is in the tablet market.

When it comes to personal computers Apple really remains in the niche market. Why is Apple going to help make the Surface a better product, when it remains the number one best-selling tablet by a long shot?

All is not doom and gloom for Microsoft and the rest of the Windows app store though. Microsoft said it now has more than 60,000 apps available, and users have downloaded about 250 million of them. It was said that the Redmond company believes that all the most popular apps available in the iTunes App Store will be available for Windows 8 by the holiday season.
