iPhone 6 Specs Include NFC, CAT 6 LTE & Wireless Charging
iPhone 6 specs detailed by “source close to the Apple”
Apple’s iPhone 6 is poised to launch in just a few months, and we already know quite a bit about the handset. Nearly all leaks confirm it will feature a larger display and we know Apple will likely out its brand new A8 chipset for use inside. But beyond this what else can we expect?
According to a new report over at Venture Beat, quite a bit – and not just arbitrary spec bumps, either. No, the iPhone 6 – according to sources close to Apple – will feature NFC, wireless charging capabilities and a vastly superior battery. better than anything we’ve previously seen from the company.
NFC
“Apple was ready to include an near field communication (NFC) radio in the last round of iPhones, but the company pulled the plug on the feature because the nascent mobile payments ecosystem was too stratified and immature,” reports Venture Beat.
These worries have apparently now been alleviated and Apple is ready to debut its NFC chips inside the iPhone 6. The report claims Apple will use NFC for payments, although it’s unclear whether the company will use the ISIS wireless payments standard or develop its own bespoke service that will tie in with TouchID for verification.
Faster LTE
This is a big one. According to the source, Apple will include CAT 6 LTE radios inside the upcoming iPhone 6. This is a huge bump from last year’s iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c, which both used CAT 4. The new CAT 6 LTE standard will allow for up to 300mbps throughput speeds.
Wireless Charging
The ability to charge your phone, sans wires has been around for quite some time now in the Android/Windows Phone space. There are now two main standards for wireless charging – Alliance for Wireless Power (A4WP) and Power Matters Alliance (PMA) – and VB’s source says Apple is ready to commit to one, meaning wireless charging capabilities as standard aboard the iPhone 6 (and 2014’s iPad releases, too).
We don’t know which alliance Apple is committing to, just that it is committing to one and is keen to get wireless charging capabilities inside its next-generation iPhone.
