How To Use Google Cloud Print
Follow this simple guide to set up and use Google Cloud Print, it’s simple really
Google’s Cloud Print allows you to connect to your printer via the web and print anything from anywhere. It’s a great service but many don’t know how to set it up. You can use your computer, a tablet or even your smartphone to print the documents directly.
There’s a load of different features which come in useful here, such as the ability to print a web page directly from Google Chrome as well as letting others print directly from your network. Below are some basics on using the service:
1. Google Account At The Ready
Chances are you’ll already have a Google Account, but if not, you’ll need to set one up. To do so head on over to http://www.google.com/accounts and just press sign up. If you already have a suitable Google Account you want to set up for Cloud Print then just sign in to it. Simple.
2. Google Cloud Print
For this step make sure you’re using Google’s Chrome browser and click on the three vertical lines logo in the top right corner. Under that you can select settings which is near the end of the list. Then when in that menu, you need to press show advanced settings at the bottom.
Follow the list down until you find Google Cloud Print, press sign in and you’re there. It’ll then ask you to finish registering a printer and you should do it.
3. How To Manage Printers
Now you can register as many printers are you’d like. Click on the Manage Your Printers tab and it’ll show you what’s happening with the registered printers and will let you add some more. You can also share your printers from this menu.
If you ever lose this menu, just repeat step two and you’ll find it under the settings spanner bar again.
4. Now Print From Chrome
Press Ctrl+P and it’ll allow you to print from your chosen printer. Simple.
5. Save Pages To Google Docs
Google Cloud Print lets you save web pages directly as PDF documents. Again press Ctrl+P or the button under the three lines top menu. Before you choose your printer though be sure to click on Save to Google Docs before you press Print. It’ll then appear in your Google Docs file where you can either print or download it.
6. Print Queue
If your printer is turned off you can still send your file to it, it’ll just sit in a queue ready to print. If later you don’t want that document to still print you can cancel it from the Print Queue menu which you’ll find under your Google Account.
That’s it, you’re fully inducted into the world of Google Cloud Print. Rinse and repeat the steps for all the devices you want connected if it doesn’t automatically do it on your Google Account. Now you can print anything you want whilst on the move and it’ll be there waiting for you when you get home.
