How To Pair Samsung Galaxy S5 With Gear 2 SmartWatch
Get your Dick Tracy on! Here’s how you connect your Gear 2 smartwatch to the Samsung Galaxy S5
Samsung was one of the first companies out of the blocks with a smartwatch, although it was 2013’s ill-fated Galaxy Gear. That watch was something of a proof-of-concept, a way for Samsung to rub everybody else’s face in it – and it showed. Battery life, functionality and the overall design and finish of the Galaxy Gear left quite a bit to be desired.
The Gear 2 – which runs Tizen OS, not Android – is a much different beast, with a slimmer overall profile that’s a lot more pleasing to the eye. Battery life has been improved too, and Samsung has added in a bunch of new features that actually make your feel like you’re wearing a smartwatch, which is great because with the Galaxy Gear, this just wasn’t the case.
And here’s how you pair that sucker with your Galaxy S5 (or Note 2, Note 3 or any other compatible Samsung device):
- First things first: you need to register a Samsung account. To do this go to Settings and then Accounts. Select this Samsung Account option and follow the steps.
- Make sure your Gear 2 is fully charged and Bluetooth is switched on and is visible. To do this go to the Gear 2’s Settings app, scroll down to Bluetooth and switch it on.
- Next, go to Samsung Apps and download Gear Manager.
- Open Gear Manager and hit Scan – it will then search for your Gear 2.
- Once it’s found it, tap Connect and wait – a few seconds later your Galaxy S5 and Gear 2 will be paired.
- That’s it. Done. Now all you need to do is configure the Gear 2, select which apps you want to enable and what sort of notifications you want sent from your Galaxy S5 to your Gear 2.
- Enjoy.
It’s also worth noting that this setup is exactly the same for the Gear 2 Neo.
