Despite the fact that Google hasn’t even released its Google Glass yet into the public domain, it isn’t stopping with its entry into the wearable electronics field. According to a new report from The Wall Street Journal Google is looking to release its own smartwatch to combat the likes of Apple with its rumored iWatch and various other companies trying to rule the market.

Not only is the Search Engine Giant looking to release a smartwatch though, it is also looking into releasing an Android powered console. Check out the full scoop below:

Googleis developing a videogame console and wristwatch powered by its Android operating system, according to people familiar with the matter, as the Internet company seeks to spread the software beyond smartphones and tablets.

The people briefed on the matter said Google is reacting in part to expectations that rival Apple will launch a videogame console as part of its next Apple TV product release.

The smartwatch is an obvious move considering how popular they are becoming, but a gaming console might be a little bit more surprising to some. When you think about how popular the likes of Ouya became (an open-source Android powered console that raised over $8.5 million on Kickstarter) it is obvious why Google has an interest in the console market. Especially when its biggest competitor Apple is also looking to cash in, in it.

The report further went on to state that Google would also be releasing the next-generation of its media center Nexus Q that received only a so-so response from consumers and even an entry-level smartphone for developing markets.

It is definitely going to be interesting to see if Google will beat Apple to the punch when it comes to a smartwatch and also a gaming console. The Search Engine Giant has done it many times in the past; heck just look at their new streaming music service, which they were first to announce.
