Last year in June, Google acquired Quickoffice, a very popular office suite available for a wide array of platforms. Now, more than 1.5 years later, we are finally seeing fruits of that acquisition. The Internet giant announced that Quickoffice will be available as a free download from the Play Store starting today.

Its not the old app with a very clunky UI, though. Instead, the company is offering a brand new app that follows the Holo guidelines, has Google Drive integration, and easily allows you to edit Microsoft Office documents. The application also has a tablet optimised layout, the ability to create zip folders and more.

That’s not all though. If you download and sign in to your Google Drive account using Quickoffice by 26th September, you will get 10GB of free storage space on Drive for the next two years. The space won’t be added immediately, but will be available within a few weeks. If you had purchased the older version of Quickoffice, head over to this page for more information about the company’s existing cloud storage services and compatibility issues.

Download Quickoffice for Android from the Play Store. A new version of Quickoffice can also be downloaded for free from the iOS App Store.
