Google Looking For Its Own Spotify, Beats Music Alternative
Google is getting a little green over Apple’s new purchase and is looking for a new version
The party is still going on over at Apple and Beats Audio following the acquisition of the company Dre Dre and Jimmy Iovine built for a mammoth $3 billion. It’s thought Apple paid all that money for the Beats Music streaming service as well as the primary headphone business.
As Apple has added a music streaming site to its roster, Google seems to be getting a little bit jealous. That’s according to sources who have spoken with the NY Post.
Currently Google only offers Google Play Music which does include it’s own streaming service called “All Access” but it hasn’t particularly taken off like the company may have wished. Google Play also offers users the chance to buy albums and singles individually, much like iTunes.
So where will Google go for a music streaming site to compare with Beats Music? It looks like Google wants to try and tempt the big dog Spotify. Spotify currently has 10 million subscribers, even more users of the free service, and is valued at around $4 billion.
Spotify is soon to go public, at some point during the Autumn, and it’s going to cost $553 a share. That’s only predicted to go up and it’s unlikely Google will want to spend much more than that on the streaming service. So essentially Google needs to act fast or it will need to find an alternative.
But where else could Google go? Another option is Pandora which is already a public company worth $5.1 billion. It looks like Google is running out of music streaming options pretty quickly.
One thing is for sure, Google won’t let Apple take all the music streaming for itself, the big G wants a slice of that pie too.
