Google discounts the Nexus 4, sells out of the 8GB model in a week

Nexus 4 Google Play

If Google really is preparing to unwrap its next Nexus device soon, then its recent $100 price drop on the Nexus 4 was a pretty effective means of clearing out standing inventory of the company’s older phone. As spotted by Droid-Life, the 8GB Nexus 4 handset is now sold out in the Google Play Store. It’s not surprising as the off-contract phone was priced at $199, which is unheard of in the US market where most full retail phones cost $500 or more.

If you are still looking to snag a Nexus 4, good news as the 16GB version is still available. Don’t wait too long to buy it, though, as I would expect supplies to diminish pretty quickly. This model is selling for $249, which is only $50 more than the 8GB version and offers twice the storage space. Though it is almost a year old, the Nexus 4 is also still a very capable handset and will likely be supported by Google for the foreseeable future.

Of course, this could be a temporary “Out of Stock” notification, but given Google’s history of launches and the buzz about an upcoming Nexus release, I’d be very surprised if we saw the 8GB version come back in stock again.
