Samsung’s Galaxy S4 includes a 13MP camera that has got favorable reviews from users and reviewers worldwide. However, the lack of Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS) was a bummer and greatly affected the low-light imaging capabilities of the handset.

Korean website ETNews is now reporting that Samsung is working on a 16MP sensor for the Galaxy S5. While the article does not mention anything else, there is a high probability of Samsung including an OIS and ISOCELL technology in the sensor. The company is expected to start sampling the sensors from as early as next month itself.

However, Samsung might be forced to source sensors from Sony in case its factories are not able to produce enough sensors by the time the Galaxy S5 is ready for unveiling.

Samsung has generally used Sony’s sensors in its previous flagship devices including the Galaxy S3, S4, and the Note series. However, the company is looking to break free from its dependence on Sony’s factories.
