Field Trip for Google Glass to guarantee that you’ll never be in the moment while having fun

A little less than a year ago, Google released an Android app called “Field Trip”. Put simply, the app would run constantly in the background, and whenever you’d pass an important landmark, it would beep at you and tell you to read a Wikipedia page about what you were seeing. In March of this year, the app came to iOS. Today, it’s now on Glass. Judging from the video below, it looks as if the app will interrupt you while you’re trying to enjoy a hike through the woods, while you’re trying to enjoy the view of a vista, and while you’re appreciating the mountains going by you as you’re on a road trip.

There’s nothing wrong with information. Humans today probably generate and consume more of it in a week than a person from a century ago would consume in a year, but sometime’s it’s best to go off the grid. And if you’re on a genuine bonafide field trip, that’s one of those times.

While we’re on the topic of Glass, can you buy one yet? The answer today is no. And the answer will likely be no until mid-to-late 2014. So be patient, dear potential glass-hole.
