This attachable mobile 3D sensor called the Structure Sensor, is the world’s first mobile version of its kind that was recently funded on a crowd sourcing platform.

It is claimed that this 3D sensor has many different uses for just about anyone. It is being used for virtual gaming, precise 3D mapping, recording accurate measurements of almost everything, and more.

3D modeling of objects and people using the Structure Sensor can be imported in to CAD and used for 3D printing, which has been becoming vastly popular within the past few years.

Structure Sensor

The design of the Structure Sensor is very small and no where near as bulky compared to many other 3D sensors, as it was built from the start to be 100% mobile and compact. The colored anodized aluminum makes the Structure Sensor both a very eye appealing and durable little product. Structure Sensor will come in two colors of ice blue and silver.

The Structure Sensor has a range minimum of 40cm and maximum of 3.5 meters which is enough space to capture the largest things such as an entire room.

Have you ever thought that night vision on your iPad would be a feature that you’d never see? Guess again. The Structure Sensor has dual IR- sensors which does give it the amazing ability of night vision. The dual IR- sensors let you see the world a little differently than the camera on it.

The Structure Sensor has its own on-board battery that last up to 4 hours of use and 1000+ standby hours. Since it has a battery of its own and won’t rely on your iPad’s battery means it will not drain your iPad of its power.

Right now the Structure Sensor will only be for iPad but the folks over at structure.io are looking for developers who are interested in helping and getting this to more devices. Structure Sensor was originally designed for iPad’s, but it’s said that it has “hackability in its DNA” so that means those who know what they are doing could get it running on other devices, with that being said I believe there is a big future to come for this sensor.

You can pre-order your Structure Sensor here for $349.00 which is a bit on the expensive side but the price will more than likely decrease after its official release. Pre-orders are scheduled to ship in spring of 2014.
