Both The iPhone 5s And iPhone 5c Have Larger Batteries Than The iPhone 5

Both The iPhone 5s And iPhone 5c Have Larger Batteries Than The iPhone 5

At Apple’s September 10th iPhone keynote, Phil Schiller said that both the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c would have slightly bigger batteries. Of course Apple didn’t actually go into the specifics of the actual battery size in Whr or mAh. It only gave us their estimations of both devices features 10 hours of 3G talk time , 250 hours of standby, 10 hours of internet usage on LTE or Wi-Fi, 10 hours of video playback and 40 hours of audio playback.

With these stats it was widely believed that both the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c had the same battery, but it turns out that is not true. Anandtech got their hands dirty and found the FCC documents for the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C. It turns out that the iPhone 5s has a 10% bigger battery than the iPhone 5 and the iPhone 5c has a respectable 5% bigger battery.

According to the documents the iPhone 5s’ battery has a capacity of 5.96 Whr, while the iPhone 5c’s battery capacity is at  5.73 Whr. For comparison sake the iPhone 5′s battery was rated at 5.45 Whr.

It is worth noting that AnandTech observed:

While I’m somewhat skeptical sometimes of the accuracy of battery capacities as reported in FCC disclosures (which I noted about the battery size for the Nexus 5), these numbers seem credible given what I’ve heard, the statement Apple made during the keynote about the 5C battery size going up, and what I’d expect with some board re-layout for the 5S.

And if you are wondering how Apple was able to increase the battery life in the iPhone 5S, despite the fact it now features a fingerprint scanner and faster processor it all lies within all the components working harmoniously together.

Apple purposely designed the new A7 chip to be incredibly energy efficient and it is abel to shut down idle parts to preserve power and adjusts its clock frequency depending on load. It’s M7 coprocessor also reduces network pinging to spare your battery because it is more efficient at collecting data from the accelerometer, gyroscope, and compass sensors than the main processor.
