I’ve been trying to build an app for my blog, EPELTECH, but the thing is… I’m not a developer. On July last year I bought myself a subscription to Apple’s developer program just to realize I didn’t know anything about building an app and that it was much more complicated than I thought it would be.

There are lots of websites that promise a pain-free app development process, but the end result is a hideous design and limited app usability, plus, most of them don’t help you to publish (you have to do it on your own, which, I find, is in itself quite difficult).

My dream is to have an app on the App Store before the expiration of my membership, and I think I may be close to do it. A week ago I got an invitation to start using AppMachine beta, a software that enables users to create beautiful apps without the trouble, using an iPad, iPhone, a tablet or a computer.

You can’t have access to AppMachine yet if you don’t have an invite (although you can register), so let me paint you a picture: every time I want to log in, I have to go to my email, open the invitation and click on a “OK, let’s go!” button.

After I do, I’m redirected to a login section. I enter my details and am presented with a home screen that displays demo apps and a big red block on the upper left part of the website that says “Create new App”.

If I click there, a box appears to “Name your app”, and then I can enter the URL to my website. AppMachine analyses it to obtain text, images, video and links; extracts the content; and creates an app, offering the option to select my Twitter and Facebook accounts, and feeds from my blog. Just like that.

Then the rest of the process is just tweaking: there’s a yellow section on the left side of AppMachine with all the “blocks” or app sections, which can be modified in terms of content and name.

Everything is nice and dandy, but the thing that is missing at the moment is the publishing option – although I can prepare my apps for the App Store or Play if I wanted to at this stage.

I contacted the AppMachine team on their Twitter account and they told me the publishing service may be available next week and that they will let developers know.

It might also take a while for AppMachine to go out of the beta phase, but we’ll keep you posted.
