Anki DRIVE Touches Down On The Apple Store For $199 [VIDEO]

During the WWDC 2013 Apple brought on stage the team behind Anki to show off their new innovative racing game that essentially took advantage of an iOS Device to control miniature self driving cars. The demonstration was impressive to say the least and really wowed the audience. It was announced after that Anki would be released in late October and sure enough it is now available from the Apple Store for $199.

This is the official description for the Anki DRIVE starter kick from the Apple Store.

Anki DRIVE uses Artificial Intelligence (AI) to deliver a racing game like no other—with cars you can control from your iPhone or iPod touch. Play against friends or against a DRIVE AI car under its own control. Each car has been engineered to think. It knows where it is, makes decisions, and drives itself. So watch your back. DRIVE AI cars are more than ready to take you out.

Apparently “each car scans the track 500 times a second using state-of-the-art sensors and algorithms to determine its exact position, speed, and trajectory.”

What is even more impressive is that the cars use machine learning and artificial intelligence to essentially be able to perceive the world around them and know where it is and what decisions to make. Furthermore it was stated that “at real-world scale, these cars could drive 250MPH executing maneuvers within a tenth of an inch”

You can take a look at a video preview of Anki below:

Besides the starter kit there is even two additional cars available for purchase that include blue Katal and red RHO. Each car has its own personality and is equipped with unique skills, weapons and defences.

It does have a steep price tag, but it is without a doubt a cool accessory. Let us know your thoughts on Anki DRIVE in the comments section below. Will you be getting one?
