Sony SmartWatch 3 & SmartBand Talk Leak Before IFA 2014
Sony’s new wearable range has been detailed in a new leak with some photos of the upcoming SmartWatch 3 and SmartBand Talk
Sony previously suggested it had no interest in using the Android Wear platform for its range of wearables, but it seems the company has now back-tracked as it’s heavily rumoured Sony will unveil a SmartWatch 3 powered by the new OS during its IFA 2014 press conference.
Sony’s new wearable range has now been leaked with photos courtesy of 9To5Google. It came with the following image and a quick look through the specs.
The Android Wear-powered Sony SmartWatch 3 comes with a 1.68in display with a 320 x 320 pixel resolution. It’s rumoured to feature IP58 water and dust resistant certification and it’ll have a Sony style skin on top of the Android Wear OS – an interesting move as it’s apparently the first OEM-made watch on Android Wear to do so.
The Sony SmartBand Talk comes with a curved e-ink display and Bluetooth connectivity. It’ll allegedly work as a fitness tracker wearable and will also be able to send a series of phone notifications to your wrist, but not all the features are known just yet.
We can assume Sony opted for an e-ink display on the new device in order to improve the battery life, it’s the first SmartBand to feature a display. Sony has also teased the latest product range with a hint that it will be able to handle submersion further underwater than previous devices.
On the UK Twitter account for Sony it posted an image of a swimming pool with the message “We’ll be getting deep at #IFA2014. But how deep…?”. The image comes with the word 2m? suggesting there will be stronger water and dust resistant technology present on the next range of products.

We’ll know on Wednesday as Sony’s pre-IFA 2014 press conference takes place on September 3. It’s expected we’ll also see the Sony Xperia Z3, Sony Xperia Z3 Compact and Sony Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact at the event as well.
