The Kindle Fire was one of those devices that really helped create that budget tablet market. We here in Canada were left out of that party for a long time but now we too can take part in the fun and based on this latest report, the next Kindle Fire could be lots of fun.
An unnamed Amazon tablet has made its way onto GFX Bench and it packs quite a punch. The mystery device, which is currently under the codename Apollo, will feature a display with a 2570×1600 resolution which, at any screen size, is going to be a pretty darn crisp display. It will also pack the amazing Snapdragon 800 processor and Adreno 330 GPU. Android 4.2.2 is said to running the show but like other Kindle devices, it will be tucked beneath a boat load of Amazon customizations.
Now if they can keep their prices similar to what they’re at right now (roughly $200-$300), this thing could fly off their shelves. It will easily rival any other 7″-8″ spec wise and while many may not want their customized version of Android, the dev community has always found ways to bring this thing back to the stock Android OS we all love.
