Moto X to have “Clear Pixel” camera?

Taylor Wimberly (above, left), the guy who managed to get a white Nexus 4 before the rest of the world because he has some pretty tight connections with Google, says that Motorola’s upcoming “Moto X” will “feature a Clear Pixel Camera with gesture controls.” When someone asked him what the hell that even means, he responded:

“It means “dark, blurry pics and lack of details” will be things of the past.

That’s it. That’s where the “news” stops and the speculation begins. Now let’s think about this logically. HTC has UltraPixel, which they use to describe a camera with massive pixels. The Moto X is supposed to have a 10 megapixel camera, so can those 10 megapixels be “bigger” pixels than what you regularly find on devices like the GS4 or iPhone? Maybe, but a bit unlikely.

Nokia has “PureView”, which means different things depending on the device you’re talking about, but for the sake of argument let’s just say it means a camera with optical image stabilization. Taylor says the Moto X camera will feature gesture controls. I don’t know about you, but touching and tapping a screen introduces a lot of shake, so maybe OIS will fix that?

Anyway, the real question is when will we know more about the Moto X? It’s going to come out in less than 100 days, but as for the actual press conference … that’s a tough one. I sincerely hope that Google/Motorola pull an Apple and wait until the last minute to announce the phone. No point in announcing a phone in July or August that’s not going to ship until October.

Then again, why did the ads run last week?
