Apple iWatch Won’t Hit Shelves This Year, 2015 Instead
Apple’s hotly rumoured iWatch may be announced soon, but won’t be available inside 2014 according to new reports
Apple’s known to be hosting a big event on September 9, one which is presumed to see the launch of the iPhone 6, as well as a larger iPhone phablet, while many reports suggest the iWatch may also make an appearance. However, while a new report doesn’t rule out the possibility of the iWatch breaking cover at Apple’s early September event, it goes on to claim the wearable will not ship until 2015.
Respected news site Re/Code cited unnamed sources in a new report where it stated the Apple smartwatch would not arrive in stores this year. One source “in a position to know,” reportedly said “It’s not shipping anytime soon.” The report goes on to point out that it’s not an unprecedented move from Apple to announce a new device months before it arrives, with the first iPhone being cited as an example; Apple unveiled the first iPhone in January 2007 but it didn’t start shipping until June. Another example is the first-generation iPad, which was announced in January 2010 but only hit shelves that April.
This being the first ever smartwatch from the iPhone maker it could follow a similar pattern, with a longer delay before arriving on users’ wrists. Apple reportedly declined to comment.
