Why The Samsung Galaxy A5 is 100% Worth Buying

It’s not a flagship, but it sure does look like one. The case for the Samsung Galaxy A5 is very strong, indeed

Guess what? You really do not need a flagship phone these days. I know, a flagship handset is always nice, but if you’re looking at saving some money or getting out of the contract loop, you do have other, very impressive options.

And one of my current favorites – you can see the other 18 handsets here – is the Samsung Galaxy A5. Not only does the Samsung Galaxy A5 look like a flagship phone in its own right, but it also performs like one.

Android Nougat will begin rolling out soon too, which means you’ll have the latest build of Google’s Android OS, but beyond this, you’re getting a hell of a lot of bang for your buck. I mean, just look at these specs:

  • Full metal unibody design
  • Snapdragon 615 CPU
  • 16-megapixel, f/1.9 rear camera
  • 16-megapixel, f/1.9 front camera
  • 32GB storage, microSD expansion
  • IP68 water resistance
  • USB-C

They’re really impressive, which for the price of under £250 from most places, offers exceptional value for money pretty much across the board. The Galaxy A5 2017 edition is also massively improved over the original 2015 handset.

You also have a very impressive camera onboard, which will produce excellent shots in all manner of settings, including low-light. It might not have all the bells and whistles of the Galaxy S8, but the A5’s sensor is still one hell of a capable shooter.

You get 3GB of RAM, plenty of internal storage (32GB), and Qualcomm’s excellent 615 CPU as well. This means top-level performance for everything from gaming to multitasking to imaging.

The design, however, is really where the Galaxy A5 really comes into its own; it looks positively stunning with its premium, unibody chassis, and gorgeous AMOLED display.

The big USP of going with handsets like the Galaxy A5 – for me, at least – is that you can, with a little saving or a credit card, buy the phone outright, which gets you out from under network contracts, and then shop around for a great (and always cheaper) rolling monthly deal.

Going this route could save you hundreds of pounds a year. Yes, shiny new flagship phones like the iPhone 8 and Samsung Galaxy S8 are all well and good, but if you’re after value for money, you cannot beat a handset like the Galaxy A5 – it’s FOUR TIMES cheaper than the Galaxy S8.

And, trust me, when you use it… the phone will definitely not feel four times cheaper. This segment of the market is where Samsung makes most of its money too; it makes most of it here because most people want value for money, and the Galaxy A series delivers it in spades vs. the company’s costly S series.

The Galaxy A5 has also received positive reviews across the board from both KYM and also the vast majority of its peers. And the reason? Simple: great specs, design, and performance for a very reasonable price tag.

And in a world where the average flagship is now approaching £999 SIM-free, handsets like the Galaxy A5 have never been more necessary.

You used to be able to pick up the Samsung Galaxy A5 direct from Samsung but, unfortunately, it is completely SOLD OUT at the moment.

The next best option, however, is Carphone Warehouse where prices start at £359.99 for the Galaxy A5. The handset is available in four colors too; the peach cloud option is exclusive to Carphone as well.

If you don’t want to fork out £359 for the handset, the Galaxy A5 is available on plans from as little as £19.99 a month.
