Samsung Galaxy S5: Setting Up Security, Fingerprint Scanner, Encryption
We show you how to lock down your Samsung Galaxy S5
You’ve got a Samsung Galaxy S5. Congrats. Now you’re probably thinking about what type of content, apps and games you can get on it. After all, that’s pretty much what these things are designed for – that and making calls, of course. But what about security? That’s important, too – even more so if you’re living in a city. And with the Galaxy S5, you have a myriad of options for locking your phone down.
Here’s a quick guide showing you how to set up some basic security features:
Set up The Finger Print Scanner
Using your fingerprint to access your Galaxy S5 is just about the most secure way to do it – only you, after all, have your fingerprints. With the fingerprint scanner setup, you can also use it to confirm mobile payments via PayPal. It’s also a breeze to setup, too:
Settings > Fingerprint Scanner > Fingerprint Manager > Add New Fingerprint
After this you’ll be asked to setup an additional security login – passcode or pattern – in case the fingerprint scanner fails.
Samsung Account
Samsung packs tons of bloatware into its smartphones and tablets, but setting up a Samsung Account is definitely advisable as it allows you to remotely wipe your device if your handset is stolen or lost. You can also use your Samsung Account to ring the handset if you’ve misplaced it or find it on a map which, if you’ve ever lost your phone down the back of the sofa, is an absolute godsend.
Settings > User & Back Up Section > Accounts > Add Account > Select Samsung Account
Encryption
This one takes a while, around an hour, but it is definitely worth doing, especially if your handset is carrying any sensitive, personal data. Once you’ve done it, all of your data will be scrambled, meaning only you – once you’ve securely accessed your handset – can view it. To perform an encryption follow these steps: Settings > Security >Encrypt
