LG DID Experience “Issues” With Snapdragon 810 But DON’T WORRY They’ve Been Fixed
LG has admitted to encountering some initial problems with the Snapdragon 810 chip
Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 810 seems to be all over the news just lately, mainly due to allegations that it suffers overheating and performance problems just as it’s about to hit the market in a slew of new devices. But the latest twist in the tale sees LG confirming that it did initially have some problems with the octa-core chip, however, the phone maker has added that these issues are now fixed.
It seems the statement relates to LG’s “initial batch” of chips from Qualcomm destined to go inside the LG G Flex 2. Again, however, LG assures us all that any kinks have been ironed out and the G Flex 2 will go on sale according to schedule. Plus the LG G4 was also mentioned. LG’s comments were made during a Q4 2014 fiscal press conference at the company’s HQ reported by ZDNet Korea, obviously at such a meeting the company’s finances are the main emphasis, but as usual with these things, questions were asked and LG apparently saw an opportunity to clear things up.
Previously the company has denied the claims that it encountered problems, so this is an interesting u-turn.
LG also went on to deny recent claims it was considering a legal confrontation with Qualcomm in relation to reports of there being a version of the 810 developed specifically for Samsung; not only was the rumour somewhat spurious to begin with, but apparently escalating tensions between Samsung and Qualcomm could see the Galaxy S6 maker ditching the Snapdragon 810 entirely in favour of its own Exynos hardware. In other words, Samsung ‘ain’t getting any special treatment, so there seems to be no grounds for LG to get antsy.
Attending journos also quizzed LG over possible metal build handsets inside 2015 (understandable given market trends) but LG simply said it had not made any such decisions yet.
