Huawei P9 Event Scheduled For April 6: 12MP Dual-Camera, Kirin 950 & 3900mAh Battery On-Board
Huawei is preparing to launch the Huawei P9 at an event in early April
Huawei shows no signs of slowing down following the impressive Huawei Mate 8 handset and a selection of rather likeable Honor branded devices in recent months, as the firm has now begun issuing invitations for an event on April 6.
The event is believed to be the launch of the much-rumoured Huawei P9 handset, and also sits precisely with the date previously leaked by reliable Twitter tipster Evan Blass, aka @evleaks, who had pointed to April 6 for the launch.
The invite contains a few little clues, including the hashtag #o o which is believed to represent the rumoured dual-camera sensor hardware, something we’re hearing a lot about on a selection of new and forthcoming smartphones for 2016. As well as saying we should “save the date”, the invite hints that it will “change the way you see the world”, again likely a camera reference.
Huawei P9 Design & Display
A number of leaked renders and live photos have shown the Huawei P9 will feature a design similar to the firm’s existing all-metal devices such as the Huawei Mate 8 and the Huawei Mate S. That means an overall fairly angular shape made from aluminium, with a high-quality fit and finish, and a visual style that looks like it pilfers all the best bits from the HTC One M9, Samsung Galaxy S6/S7 and Apple’s iPhone 6 series. It’ll also apparently include a USB Type-C connector.
The display is allegedly a 5.2in 1080p affair, at least that’s the most consistent rumour, but a larger variant with a 6.2in QHD+ display, known as the Huawei P9 Max has also been the subject of some whispers – whether this will be unwrapped at the same event or saved for later isn’t clear.
Huawei P9 Hardware Specs
Huawei’s own Kirin chipsets have been impressing tech correspondents left and right, and the latest model found in the Huawei Mate 8, was seriously something to behold, even competing quite happily with the Apple A9, Samsung Exynos 8890 and Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 on benchmarks. It’s incredibly fast, in other words, and it’s heading to the inside of the Huawei P9 too. The rumour trail also points to 3GB of RAM, a Mali-T880 GPU, and a 3,900mAh battery cell apparently poised to continue the Mate 8’s crazy battery life.
Huawei P9 Camera
Not much is known about the camera other than the presence of a dual-lens array on the rear, and what appears to be a two-tone dual-LED flash and a laser autofocus module. Huawei has produced a dual-camera before in the Honor 6 Plus, so it’s expected we’ll see a return of similar features such as post-capture focus selection. According to VentureBeat’s sources the Huawei P9 will feature two 12MP sensors with Leica lenses.
