HTC One M8 Successor Leaks: Snapdragon 805 CPU, New Camera, QHD Display
HTC is working on a successor flagship as the HTC One M9, featuring a larger display, upgraded processor, and a much better camera
We’ve previously heard talk of an HTC One M8 successor, unsurprisingly dubbed the HTC One M9, but now it’s broken cover with details leaking of an alleged spec line-up. As always with such leaks, it has emerged through the Asian supply network, with Chinese tech news site My Drivers coming up with the goods.
Keeping with the current trend for ever-expanding flagships, the HTC One M9 will be larger than its predecessor with a 5.5in QHD touch display – there aren’t any details as to precisely what display tech is being utilised, but traditionally HTC has opted for Super LCD screens. Inside there’s reportedly a Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 quad-core CPU, the current top-of-the-line chip from the prominent processor manufacturer; this uses 3GB of RAM and the new Krait 450 chip architecture. Nothing is mentioned, but naturally Android Lollipop 5.0 is a fairly safe assumption for the software.
The report goes on to state that, much to our relief, HTC is abandoning its UltraPixel camera setup with something a bit more useful taking its place; a 16MP sensor with optical stabilisation (OIS). The spec list also includes microSD card support, a 3,500mAh battery cell, and options for either 32GB, 64GB, or 128GB of onboard storage space.
The leaked info also provides an image of the phone, although it’s not clear whether it’s a rendered mockup or similar, at any rate it does show the enlarged proportions and that the design will be similar to the previous HTC One with an aluminium rear panel.
And in terms of a release? Well no info is provided, however, some sites are speculating we could see the M9 launched at a similar time to its predecessor, which would see it arrive around March 2015, perhaps with an announcement at Mobile World Congress in February.
Here’s the spec list as reported by the source:
- 5.5″ QHD display
- Snapdragon 805 processor
- 3GB of RAM
- 16MP rear-facing camera w/ OIS
- microSD slot
- 32/64/128GB storage options
- 3,500mAh battery
