Google’s Android Oreo update is now rolling out to Verizon Pixel phones in the US
Android Oreo got officially official just over a week ago and now, way earlier than usual, the update has started rolling out to Pixel and Pixel XL phones on Verizon.
Verizon released an updated page for both the Pixel and Pixel XL, where it discusses the update and what users’ can expect once it lands on their phones.
“Verizon Wireless is pleased to announce a new software update for your Pixel / Pixel XL Phone by Google,” said the network. “Android 8.0 Oreo improves your mobile experience with several new features and enhancements.”
The main benefits of Android Oreo, though there’s a lot more in addition to these, are as follows:
- Improved Notifications
- Better Battery Management
- Picture-In-Picture Mode
- Adaptive Icons
- Improved Sound Quality
- Password Autofill
- Multi-Display Support
- Improved Keyboard Input
Prior to the release of the Google Pixel and Pixel XL, many were concerned about Verizon being the exclusive carrier, as its track record with updates isn’t all that good.
However, this time it has nailed it – eight days after going live is pretty good by anyone’s standards.
If you’re rocking a Pixel XL or Pixel from Verizon you should have received the update by now. If you haven’t, don’t stress, it should be with you presently.
You can, however, check for updates manually using the following method: Settings -> About phone -> System updates -> Check for update.
If you’re a fan of Google’s Pixel phones, you probably know that the release of the Google Pixel 2 is now just around the corner. The new handset is expected to feature a raft of new specs, a new design, and plenty more functionality.
Q4 is shaping up to be a super-competitive market with the release of Apple’s iPhone 8, iPhone 7s, Samsung’s Galaxy Note 8, the Essential Phone, the LG V30 and, of course, Google’s Pixel 2 and Pixel XL 2.
Which one are you most interested in? Personally, I was more or less convinced I’d be getting a Pixel XL 2… but now, with the arrival of the Essential Phone, I’m not so sure.
