Google Glass Now Available In UK Via Google Play
Google Glass can now be bought from Google’s site in the UK for £1,000
Fancy some smart specs? Well now you can pick up Google Glass direct from Google itself on the Google Play webstore. It’s still in beta, mind you, and it still ain’t cheap either at a cool £1,000, however, that price includes one complimentary add-on, with a choice of prescription eyeglass frames or sunglasses frames if you add one to the shopping cart when you purchase Google Glass.
For the regular Explorer Edition frames your colour choices include Charcoal (black/grey), Tangerine (orange), Cotton (white), Shale (grey/brown), and Sky (blue). The custom eyeglasses frames also have the same colour options, and frame style choices include Curve, Split, Bold, and Thin. Additional sets of frames can be purchased for £175 each. The sunglasses frames are not coloured (just black), but style choices include Active, Classic, and Edge. These normally cost £120 each. Google’s listings say these products will ship within a few days.
Other accessories include cases, pouches, a clear shield, and both mono and stereo earbuds – when you buy Glass you do get a pouch, mono earbud and charger thrown in anyway. Meanwhile, Google has stocked the Play store with around 40 apps designed specifically for Glass.
Before buying Glass you might want to ensure you have a compatible device. The wearable runs on Android 4.4 KitKat and pairs with compatible devices via the MyGlass app – this will work on any Android phone or tablet running Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0.3 or later, but can also be found on iOS if you’re running at least an iPhone 4 or iPad 2 with iOS 7 or above.
The headset features a 5MP camera with 720p video recording, 12GB of onboard storage (plus Google cloud capability). Hesitant to part with £1,000 of your hard-earned? Fair enough, the good news is we should have a review here on KYM fairly soon, so stay tuned for our verdict. In the meantime why not check out our Google Glass first-look for our initial impressions.
