Several new features of the Google Pixel 2 have been revealed ahead of next week’s BIG REVEAL… And one’s REALLY creepy
The Google Pixel and Google Pixel XL 2 will launch in just under a week’s time. This year’s phones will be built by HTC and LG, respectively, and are tipped to be pretty sizeable updates on what came before.
As a current Pixel XL user, I am very interested in what Google comes to the table within 2017. Early reports suggested the handsets might be a little, umm… boring, with few changes to the overall design of the handsets.
But this isn’t 100% just yet; the rumors that pushed this could well have been based on false rumors. Still, somebody has now managed to get their hands on an ACTUAL Google 2 XL handset.
The news comes via Android Police’s new source, a person that apparently played with a Verizon Pixel 2 handset. The source then outlined the following things about the handset, though AP insists that it cannot vouch for the authenticity of this source (apparently they’re a new one).
So what did this mystery person say about the Pixel 2? I’ve bullet-pointed the key, new features below for your viewing pleasure. Enjoy:
- Google Pixel 2 (the smaller one) will cost less and not be as good as the larger phone.
- Neither phone will feature a dual-lens camera.
- Pixel Launcher has had a HUGE redesign – new home page and the search bar is now located beneath the dock.
- Squeeze for Google Assistant even when offline. Yep, that’s right – you will be able to squeeze the Pixel 2 XL to activate Assistant, just like the rumors said you would be able to do.
Lastly, the Google Pixel 2 will apparently listen out for music ALL THE TIME, so when it hears a song it will display the album artwork on the lock screen. This sounds both cool and infinitely creepy.
Why creepy? Simple: Google is a massive company and I don’t really like the idea of one of its phones blatantly listening and recording everything I do, say, or listen to.
That’s just weird.
The Google Pixel 2 handsets will launch on October 4.
