Apple Just Shifted 10 MILLION iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus Units
Apple confirms yet another record-breaking opening weekend for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus
The iPhone 6 was always going to be a big deal. Everybody knew that. But what most didn’t know was just HOW big a deal it was going to be, and it took until today –– Monday, Sept. 22 –– to find out. As it turns out the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus weren’t really a big deal… they were a HUGE deal, dwarfing every other iPhone launch to date.
Apple says it has shifted “over” 10 million iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus units since Friday, Sept. 19. That is a HUGE volume of sales, even by Apple’s usually impressive standards, adding in an additional million or so sales on last year’s –– also record-breaking –– iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c opening weekend.
We knew the iPhone 6 (and iPhone 6 Plus) would be a big deal –– Apple received four million pre-orders inside 24 hours of the handsets going up for pre-order, a positively enormous figure even by Apple’s usual standards. And yet this is NOTHING compared to how many iPhones Apple sold during opening weekend, which at 10 million is, frankly, bordering on the INSANE.
Here’s what Tim Cook had to say about the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus’ opening weekend performance:
“Sales for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus exceeded our expectations for the launch weekend, and we couldn’t be happier,” said Apple CEO Tim Cook in a statement to the press. “We would like to thank all of our customers for making this our best launch ever, shattering all previous sell-through records by a large margin. While our team managed the manufacturing ramp better than ever before, we could have sold many more iPhones with greater supply and we are working hard to fill orders as quickly as possible.”
