BlackBerry announced the latest update to BBM at the Mobile World Congress. The new and improved BBM has already started rolling out for Android and BB 10 users. BlackBerry has fixed bugs and made several tweaks to make the BBM experience faster and smoother than ever.

BlackBerry has also added several new features to BBM. Here is a quick overview of these new features.

BBM allows you to message with total privacy and control. Your BBM PIN is an important part of your BBM experience. All people who use BBM have a unique PIN. It is linked to their personal BlackBerry ID. You only have to share your BBM PIN with other users and they will be able to add you to their contacts list. This eliminates the need to reveal your private information like email address and phone number.

Your PIN is an alphanumeric code. PINs can be seen everywhere – in email signatures, on business cards, flyers etc.

Subscriptions

When you upgrade to the latest version of BBM, you will find a new option called Subscriptions in the BBM Shop. These are extra BBM features that you can purchase for a recurring fee. Right now two subscriptions are available ‘Custom PIN’ and ‘No Ads’.

No Ads

The ‘No Ads’ subscription allows you to remove advertisements from BBM. It costs US $0.99/month.  When you buy this subscription, you will stop seeing ads in your feed. You won’t receive sponsored invitations from BlackBerry’s partners either.

Custom PIN

A Custom PIN is a PIN that is easy to remember. It says something about you or your personality. Custom PINs include only numbers and letters. Special characters are not used in them. Also they aren’t case sensitive. You can buy a Custom PIN BBM Subscription for US $1.99/month.

If you have an active subscription you will also be able to wear badge on your avatar. This is a great way to show your premium status.

Android WearPhotos in Groups

New BBM updates have made BBM Groups even better. The last update gave users the ability to add BBM stickers to Group Chats. The new update allows users to add photos to Group Chats.

While engaging in a group conversation, you can share photos. These photos will be saved to the Pictures category of your group. As a result, you will be able to ‘like’ them or comment on them.

Security Updates for iOS

Now iOS users can secure their BBM Chats with password. They can lock their conversations with a fingerprint or 4-digit passcode. Users will be able to decide how long BBM will remain unlocked before requesting a password again.

Android Wear

Are you using BBM on your Android device? If so, you will be happy about this. The new release supports Android Wear. So, when a new BBM message arrives, you will be able to receive notifications on your wrist. With some simple swipes, you can read and reply to these notifications. This will make discreet messaging even easier.

BlackBerry has been updating BBM more often. And these updates have made it the most secure private social network.
