Apple’s Request to Sell Refurbished iPhones in India Rejected

The government of India has said ‘no’ to Apple’s request to import used iPhones into the country, LiveMint reported today. The move comes hot on the heels of the finance ministry’s decision to rejecte a recommendation from the commerce ministry to waive the 30 percent local sourcing norm for Apple to sell refurbished iPhones in its own branded stores in India.

“We are not in favour of any company selling used phones in the company, however certified they may be,” said commerce and industry minister, Nirmala Sitharaman.

It was initially believed that Apple would be allowed to set up its own stores in the country as the DIPF was on the verge of giving the company the necessary approval, but the finance ministry decided to intervene at the last moment and change the decision. A discussion between the company and the Indian government on this matter is still pending, which will finally decide whether Apple’s direct stores are coming to India or not.

Speaking to NDTV 24X7, Cook rejected the notion that Apple wanted to dump its used products in India, this is what he said:

First of all, we would never ‘dump’ anything, this in virtually all countries in the world we have a process by which a phone that’s been used by the first owner or is taken back and made to be new, if you will, and a warranty is placed on that, just like a warranty for a new phone. And it’s sold for a more affordable price and that happens in several countries.
What we want to do is do the act of bringing it back to this pristine level, we want to do that in India for the Indian market. We may have to bring in some phones from other markets in order to fuel the supply chain if you will. But the act of bringing them to pristine conditions, we want to do that in this country.

Because the finance ministry has taken a tough position on Apple, the commerce and industry minister will “examine the matter.”

So what do you think ?

The federal government of India has stated ‘no’ to Apple’s request to import used iPhones into the rustic, LiveMint reported nowadays. The transfer comes scorching at the heels of the finance ministry’s determination to rejecte a advice from the trade ministry to waive the 30 % native sourcing norm for Apple to promote refurbished iPhones in its personal branded retail outlets in India.

“We don't seem to be in favour of any corporate promoting used telephones in the corporate, then again qualified they could also be,” stated trade and business minister, Nirmala Sitharaman.

It used to be first of all believed that Apple can be allowed to arrange its personal retail outlets in the rustic because the DIPF used to be at the verge of giving the corporate the essential approval, however the finance ministry made up our minds to interfere on the ultimate second and alter the verdict. A dialogue between the corporate and the Indian executive in this topic continues to be pending, which can in any case come to a decision whether or not Apple’s direct retail outlets are coming to India or now not.

Talking to NDTV 24X7, Prepare dinner rejected the perception that Apple sought after to sell off its used merchandise in India, that is what he stated:
To start with, we'd by no means ‘sell off’ anything else, this in nearly all nations in the arena we've a procedure through which a phone that’s been utilized by the primary proprietor or is taken again and made to be new, if you'll, and a guaranty is put on that, identical to a guaranty for a brand new phone. And it’s bought for a extra reasonably priced worth and that occurs in a number of nations.
What we would like to do is do the act of bringing it again to this pristine degree, we would like to do this in India for the Indian marketplace. We will have to convey in some telephones from different markets in order to gas the availability chain if you'll. However the act of bringing them to pristine prerequisites, we would like to do this in this nation.
Since the finance ministry has taken a tricky place on Apple, the trade and business minister will “read about the topic.”
