Apple Watch 2 Said to Focus on GPS and Fitness Features, Lack Cellular Connectivity
According to the report, while Apple was apparently working on the possibility of a cellular-connected Apple Watch, the company “hit roadblocks in making major changes that would connect its Watch to cellular networks and make it less dependent on the iPhone.” As a result, the company has changed its attention. While Apple was in talks with carriers to get the Apple Watch connected, issues with battery life, and other factors, were apparently the leading reasons why Apple dropped the idea for the upcoming iteration of the wearable.
Instead, Apple is said to be focusing on built-in GPS, which will then unlock even more fitness-related features for the smartwatch.
As it stands right now, the Apple Watch 2 is expected to retain the same overall design as was introduced with the original wearable. Some rumors have claimed it will feature a waterproof or water resistant design, and that built-in GPS will indeed be one of the selling points for the device, as well as a faster processor.
